It meant learning to use what they already had and being more creative.Less Stuff, More Adventure became their mantra as they focused on gaining enriching family moments and seeking personal development. Life became about only choosing what truly matters and simply disregarding the rest. With candid narrative of her experiences, insightful discussion of principles, and practical pages to fill in, Miranda s journey will empower the reader to make small, impactful changes to live more intentionally and will show that whatever they have today can be more than enough.

Book More Than Enough: How One Family Cultivated A More Abundant Life Through A Year Of Practical Minimalism Review :

This is the book I have been searching for for years. If you let it it can change your life. Literally.Don’t hesitate, buy it.As soon as I picked it up I couldn’t put it back down. I read it in one sitting.I was happy but not satisfied.I live in an apartment I had dreamed about living in for years, I have an amazing husband who I am so blessed to be married to, the cutest puppy, a job I absolutely adore and family that is always there. Somehow I just forgot.I struggle terribly with being a shopaholic. Basically if there is an ad I will buy it. It got to the point where I would literally go on Instagram to find ads of something to buy. I was bored and rather than finding hobbies and experiences to fill up my time I was chasing after the next thing. What could make me feel good? Look good? Set me apart? When you are surrounded by everything shiny and new you think you will be happy but you just reach out to find the next thing. I wasn’t happy. I was so focused on what next to buy I hardly ever looked around at the amazing life I had.I had been minimalistic for about 2 years now and my husband and I were good at keeping things tidy and clean. We had what we needed and got rid of the excess. But as we settled into our shiny new apartment and we both had more income coming in I started getting comfortable and bored. And I started buying more and more thinking as soon as I had this or that I would be happy or people would like me more.Miranda’s book allowed me to slow down, to really appreciate the world around me. To invest in experiences and not things. To be grateful and patient. To really focus on the things that matter in life (SPOILER: they are not literal things)She also taught many amazing life lessons. To screw perfectionism “I have grown up measuring myself by effort and not achievement” you don’t fail if you mess up one day. Messing up doesn’t matter—it’s not all or nothing, the destination doesn’t matter what matters is the journey, the daily effort and picking yourself back up when you fail.MIRANDA YOU ARE A SAINT AND A GENIUS. she knows her audience. And I am 100% committing to her year of less challenge. If you want a good read and a change this is the book for you. Read it. Let it sink in. Apply it. And repeat.
I just love how intentional and thoughtful Miranda is about her life. I loved reading her reflections on what inspired her year-long ban on buying non-consumable goods, and the lessons she and and her family took out of this experience. We clearly have different personalities and/or situations because I would've approached this kind of project from a very different mindset (I would be all about the budget, how this affects the bottom line, etc., whereas she spends one short chapter on money and focuses the rest of the book on more metaphysical benefits), and I think she doesn't do enough to specifically address how her message applies to people who aren't necessarily in her privileged position of not having to worry about money, but I still think her overall message applies to anyone. We can be content and grateful with what we have, we can have gratitude for what we have, and we do not need to spend our time/energy/focus on getting more of what we don't have.*I read an advanced copy gifted by the author.
